Fruit and Nut Granola

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

½ cup rice bran

½ cup oat bran

½ cup honey

2 tablespoons maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup hazelnuts, coarsely chopped

1 cup raw unsalted sunflower seeds

½ cup sesame seeds

1 cup wheat germ (defatted)

10 dried apricots, diced

½ cup golden raisins

½ cup pitted dried cranberries

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Toast the rolled oats and brans on a large baking sheet, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes.

2. Mix the honey, maple syrup, and vanilla in a medium bowl. Add the toasted oat mixture, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds. Stir well to coat. Spread the mixture in a thin layer on a baking sheet.

3. Toast the mixture in the oven, stirring every 5 minutes, until well browned, 15 to 20 minutes. Cool completely. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and add the wheat germ and dried fruits. Store in an airtight container. Serve ½ cup servings with 1/3 cup low-fat milk.

MAKES: 16 servings
